Jersey Beat

#55, 418 Gregory Ave., Weehawken, NJ 07087 ($2)

This time, Jersey Beat focuses on punk rock, its revival and the bands who originated it. It's poignant as people like Keith Morris and Bill Stevenson talk about the days, but what comes across is something which is far worse - punk rock today, for most kids, isn't the all-consuming lifestyle it used to be. Now, it's abut popularity, following the crowd and doing what the other kids think is cool. It isn't about finding the history, the people who gave it birth and nurtured it, fighting club owners to get paid, getting the shit kicked out of them by cops and the like. Now it's about 6 million records sold. Luckily, some bands still keep the faith ... but that's a topic for another review.
