Think about anthemic hooks, those soaring chords that let you know that Steve Perry is singing "Don't Stop Believing" just for you, that's he's holding his hand out to you with that yearning, searching, nearly desperate expression of longing on his face and that, if only for this moment, you are special. Got it? Good, because that contrived gesture is more emotionally valid than anything on this record.
