Super Mixer

"Super Mixer: A Goldenrod Compilation" CD (Goldenrod)

Most of the compilations I've heard lately have an incredibly low fuel to air ratio - most of the songs are boring at best and only a few of the tracks stand out and make the collection worth owning. "Super Mixer" isn't like that at all. Sure, Deerheart's "Novacaine Slip" is pretty awful metal, but the melodic, emotive tracks by Unleaded, Knapsack, ColdWaterCrane, Kill Holiday, Hemlock, Boilermaker and Overwhelming Colorfast more than compensate for that weakness. In a lot of cases, this comp. offers nothing less than rock 'n' roll salvation and communion for the faithful, which is to say that it doesn't get much better than this.
