"Self-titled" CD (Crypt)

You know, I've often wondered what kind of music the Snopes family might have listened to, and I think I finally have the answer. This record sounds like it might have broadcast over stereo speakers hung in trees just inside the Yoknapatawpha County line, if they hadn't been too busy scraping out an existence, threatening to burn barns and establishing good old fashioned brotherly resentment to invent a P.A. Don't get me wrong - I am not lauding this album's relative qualities; while it may be raw and raucous, it's an overly noisy blues revision, playing with the form in the same way Gallon Drunk and Royal Trux do, but with far lesser effect. This band's rural qualities and "hickness" seem affected; as if they had to order straw from a catalog to put between their teeth. I won't even go into the sexist aspects. 'Nuff said.
